Last night at the New Year's Eve Party our friend Abby was asking everyone what their resolution was. I answered that I wanted to lose weight, because that's what I have been working on already for the wedding, but it seemed sort of lame. I mean, how cliche to want to lose weight in the new year? I needed something better.

Tonight while I was making dinner (which included, ahem, refried beans from scratch to go with our tacos and homemade ice cream!) it occured to me that one thing I can't do but really want to be able to is make bread. And not in a bread maker, but actually doing it by hand and baking it in the oven. This is an art that has always mystified me.

Any of my bread-baking, Seattle-area readers care to offer me a lesson or two and make my New Year's dream come true?

  1. I use the recipe from hillbillyhousewife.com and my handy-dandy kitchenaid stand mixer with the dough hook. I want to try some other recipes, too, but that one comes out really well every time.

  2. Hey...I was the one who started the "What's your resolution conversation!" Abby said hers is to produce less trash, which is a really good one. Another friend said go to the gym.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment!
